In this year's session, we will summarize the most significant issues and decisions in employment law from the past year to answer the following question: What constitutes just cause? When does a change to a term or condition of employment constitute constructive dismissal? Are short service employees receiving lengthy notice assessments? Are termination provisions enforceable?

We will also provide a step by step guide to the key provisions employers should include in employment agreements, as well as discuss when employee monitoring is permissible in light of a recent investigation report issued by the BC's information and Privacy Commissioner.

  • 2015 Lawson Lundell Labour & Employment Law Seminar, 28.5.15

We'll provide an overview of the latest union cases from arbitrators, labour relations boards, and the courts. Questions addressed in this seminar include: How does the "work now, grieve later" rule apply in the context of drug and alcohol testing? Who is responsible for a supervisor's sexual harassment of a co-worker and what is the scope of damages? What is the impact of this year's Supreme Court of Canada cases on the freedom of association under the Charter?
