On October 7, 2025, Lawson Lundell lawyers Jane Mayfield and James Fraser will speak at the 59th Annual Canadian Property Tax Association's National Workshop. Taking place over four days, October 5-8, at the Omni Mont-Royal in Montréal, the conference will explore "emerging challenges and fresh opportunities: from shifts in the Canadian marketplace, advances in AI, and evolving tax policies, to reimagining valuation models, unpacking government programs, revisiting timeless case studies, exploring DEI in practice, and much more."
Jane will speak as part of a panel titled, 'Cross Canada Legal Update,' which will provide an update on the top cases and legislative developments in assessment and taxation law in several jurisdictions. Jim will speak as part of a panel titled, 'Legal Legends: Timeless Tales From Four Wise Men,' in which the panelists will share fascinating stories from their careers, including pivotal cases that changed their paths, key moments when the law took unexpected turns, and their observations on how the legal landscape has evolved over the years.
Jane practices civil and commercial litigation with a focus on complex breach of contract claims, shareholder disputes, pension and benefits litigation, municipal disputes, and property tax appeals. Jim is a leading British Columbia practitioner in property tax and expropriation law with extensive experience since 1993 providing strategic advice and litigating appeals for a wide range of clients before tribunals and courts.
