Biography

Jisoo is a lawyer and member of the firm’s Asia Pacific Group and Estate Planning and Litigation Group. Jisoo specializes in trusts and estates law and real estate law.  

In her trusts and estates practice, Jisoo regularly prepares various types of trusts, estate and incapacity planning documents. As part of her work in estate planning, she regularly implements corporate reorganizations for family-owned enterprises. Her work in trusts and estates also intersects with her practice in real estate law as she frequently advises families with extensive real estate holdings. Through her work, Jisoo helps families pass on their legacy to successive generations.

In her real estate practice, Jisoo regularly assists clients with acquiring, selling and financing real property in various asset classes, including industrial lands, office buildings, and residential apartment buildings, and she assists with corporate and partnership structuring matters for real estate transactions. Jisoo also has experience supporting various stages of real estate development from development approvals to marketing and sale of development units.

Jisoo is able to provide legal services in Mandarin Chinese, and can also communicate in Korean. Having lived in various countries growing up, Jisoo’s multicultural background informs her practice of law on a daily basis.

Jisoo is actively engaged in her community. She dedicates her talents to serving newcomers to Canada and the alleviation of poverty. She has provided pro bono advice to various organizations and individuals, including a society that facilitates opportunities for newcomer immigrant women to establish small business enterprises.

Trusts and Estates

  • Assisting with the establishment of a family trust structure for holding shares of real estate holding and development companies owning commercial and residential properties throughout the B.C. Lower Mainland (aggregate value of properties totaling over CAD$1 billion).
  • Assisting with the establishment of a family trust structure for a family holding over CAD$1 billion worth of commercial and residential buildings and wineries throughout B.C.
  • Preparing a Canada-only will for an individual from Hong Kong holding commercial real estate in Vancouver assessed at an aggregate value of CAD$150,000,000, with discretionary trusts in the will in favour of children and successive generations.
  • Implementing a multiple-wills strategy for high net worth individuals for B.C. probate fee planning.
  • Establishing joint spousal trusts for married couples.
  • Regularly preparing powers of attorney and representation agreements for incapacity planning.

Real Estate

  • Assisting the purchaser in an acquisition of development lands in British Columbia for a purchase price of $130,000,000.
  • Leading extensive due diligence for a prospective purchaser of an environmentally challenged industrial site in reviewing options for limiting potential liability resulting from existing contamination.
  • Preparation and successful filing of a complex amendment to a phased strata declaration (in respect of which litigation had been commenced by strata owners) with the B.C. Land Title Office.
  • Assisting real estate developers and investors in acquisitions of commercial, industrial and residential real estate across British Columbia.
