He frequently acts for clients in the power sector before regulatory bodies and tribunals in addition to providing broader regulatory advice. He counselled Direct Energy Marketing on regulatory compliance in Alberta, including applications for rate approvals in the province and its price setting plans.

Jeff is a litigation partner, with a practice focused on energy and regulated utilities. He appears regularly before administrative tribunals such as the BC and Alberta Utilities Commissions and the BC Oil and Gas Commission. He also acts for clients in the insurance, manufacturing and retail sectors at all levels of court, in arbitrations and in mediations.

Jeff was the head of the Litigation Group at Lawson Lundell in 2012-2013.

Jeff is a contributor to the Project Law Blog, a resource that updates proponents on the law and policy applicable to major project development in Canada.

  • An electric utility in an application before the BC Utilities Commission for the approval of the acquisition of an interest in a 490 MW hydroelectric dam 
  • Parties before the Alberta Utilities Commission regarding challenges to rules of the independent system operator
  • Clients before the National Energy Board and Federal Court on electricity export matters
  • A power marketing company in rate and market structure proceedings before the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board (now the Alberta Utilities Commission)
  • An electric utility before the BC Utilities Commission on facility approval, revenue requirements, wholesale transmission services, cost of service, and rate design applications, including conservation, distribution and transmission extension policies, tariff terms and conditions and time-of-use rates
