Counsel Cecilia Barnes Receives CABL Volunteerism Award

Lawson Lundell is proud to announce that Counsel Cecilia Barnes has been awarded the Volunteerism Award by the Canadian Association of Black Lawyers (CABL).

The CABL Volunteerism Award recognizes exceptional, sustained, and unpaid contributions by legal professionals who embody a caring community and show unwavering dedication to supporting others both locally and across Canada.

"Receiving this award as I wrapped up my time as CABL BC President, at CABL’s 30th anniversary, made the moment particularly meaningful," Cecilia said. "Volunteerism takes countless hours, often behind the scenes, and I’m especially grateful to the BC board members I had the privilege of working alongside for much of my presidency."

Cecilia has long demonstrated a commitment to community leadership, mentorship and advocacy. In addition to her legal practice in technology and commercial law, she has dedicated countless hours to strengthening networks for Black legal professionals, including her role serving as President of the B.C. board of directors at CABL.

As CABL BC President, she spearheaded the establishment of B.C.’s first pro bono legal clinic serving Black communities, leading the initiative from concept to launch and helping secure $1.9 million from the Law Foundation of British Columbia to bring the clinic to life.

The Canadian Association of Black Lawyers was established in 1996 with a mission to celebrate the achievements of Black legal professionals, foster mentorship and advocate for the broader Black community.

Please join us in congratulating Cecilia on this well-deserved achievement!
