
Lawson Lundell lawyer Caitlin Ohama-Darcus co-authored the third edition of the 'Civil Appeal Handbook,' published by the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia. Co-authored with Tom A. Posyniak and Kayla Strong, the book is a comprehensive companion to civil appellate law, practice, and procedure in B.C.
- a new foreword written by The Honourable Leonard Marchand, Chief Justice of the BC Court of Appeal;
- up-to-date case law, legislation and discussion, including the addition of over 100 cases;
- a new section on the standard of review for second level appeals, and expanded discussion regarding questions of discretion;
- additional discussion of the principles and practices that counsel should follow when unsure whether leave to appeal is required;
- a new section on anonymization orders; and
- a revised discussion of who is a proper party and who may intervene in an appeal.
Caitlin is a general civil and commercial litigator in the Vancouver office of Lawson Lundell. She handles complex civil and commercial disputes, public and Indigenous law matters, class actions, and appeals. Caitlin has extensive experience managing a wide range of litigation, from Aboriginal title disputes and corporate commercial cases, to sensitive claims involving sexual misconduct and abuse. Caitlin has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in British Columbia, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal, the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
