Lucas Soper

Lucas’s practice focuses on litigation and regulatory matters, with an emphasis on Aboriginal, environmental, and natural resources law. His litigation work spans public and private law, including cases involving Aboriginal title and rights, as well as commercial and construction disputes. He has appeared before the Supreme Court of British Columbia and the Provincial Court of British Columbia and advises clients before a range of administrative decision-makers.

In his regulatory practice, Lucas advises clients on navigating complex frameworks involving environmental, natural resource, and Indigenous matters. This includes assisting proponents and other stakeholders with Indigenous consultation processes, including advice on the Crown’s duty to consult and accommodate and related procedural and strategic considerations. He also conducts due diligence on environmental and Indigenous issues in corporate and project-based transactions. His experience includes advising clients in the energy, mining, and agriculture sectors.

Lucas joined Lawson Lundell as a summer student in 2023 and became an associate in 2025. He earned his J.D. from Dalhousie University in 2024, graduating with certificates in Indigenous and Aboriginal Law and Environmental Law. Before his legal career, Lucas played Varsity Baseball at the University of British Columbia and worked as a researcher for Indigenous nations, communities, and organizations, with a focus on Traditional Knowledge and Use Studies and Indigenous health.
