Biography

Jennie Buchanan is a partner in the Commercial Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group in Calgary. Jennie has a general commercial litigation practice, with a focus on commercial arbitration, administrative law, and employment disputes.

In her commercial arbitration practice, Jennie advises and represents clients involved in complex commercial disputes, with an emphasis on construction disputes.

Jennie’s administrative law practice focuses primarily on municipal tax assessment and property development matters, including providing strategic advice to clients and appearing before municipal assessment review boards and subdivision and development appeal boards. Jennie also has considerable experience litigating statutory appeals and applications for judicial review.

Additionally, Jennie regularly assists clients involved in employment disputes, including advising employers and employees in connection with employee separations, litigating wrongful dismissal claims, and advising and representing clients in connection with human rights matters.

Jennie has appeared as counsel before all levels of court in Alberta, and a variety of administrative tribunals, including the Calgary Composite Assessment Review Board and the Calgary Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.

  • Assisting and representing clients involved in complex construction disputes, with a particular emphasis on energy projects.
  • Representing property taxpayers in administrative hearings before property tax assessment review boards and in related judicial review proceedings.
  • Providing advice with respect to employment law matters and representing both employers and employees in wrongful dismissal disputes.
  • Representing parties in a broad range of contract and tort-based commercial disputes.
