Lawson Lundell lawyer Marko Vesely was quoted in The Lawyer's Daily in an article titled, 'B.C. defamation case not anti-SLAPP but rather brought to vindicate reputations: Appeal Court.' The article details a recent B.C. Court of Appeal decision that has "revived a defamation action which had been dismissed for running afoul of the province’s legislation to safeguard people from strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPPs)."

“Is it about vindicating someone’s harm to their reputation or is it about stifling expression?” Marko said. “And when you focus on the true purpose of this statute — making sure people are not misusing defamation actions to stifle public expression — this case shows when a person is not doing that and are genuinely trying to vindicate harm to their reputation it is more likely that these sorts of actions will be allowed to proceed.”
