Tamela J. Coates Appointed Queen's Counsel, 2020

Lawson Lundell is pleased to announce that Tammy J. Coates, a senior litigation and dispute resolution partner, has been appointed Queen’s Counsel (QC) for 2020. The Queen’s Counsel designation recognizes lawyers with exceptional contributions to the legal profession and public life. Tammy is one out of only 130 appointed lawyers in Alberta.

“I am truly honored to have been appointed and thank all those who have mentored and supported me through the years,” said Tammy Coates.

Since her admission to the Alberta bar in 1989, Tammy has played a major role in the Alberta legal industry and has appeared before all levels of the Alberta Courts, and has experience before the British Columbia Supreme Court and the Federal Court of Canada.

Tammy brings over 30 years of experience advising clients in a wide variety of commercial disputes and with respect to risk management. Currently, she serves clients in the energy, telecommunications, and financial and professional services sectors regarding complex claims involving commercial, environmental, and intellectual property issues and risk and reputational management.

Tammy also provides counsel to charities on a volunteer basis, is an advisory committee member of the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, and sits on the Founders’ Group of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area.
