Lawson Lundell partner Caitlin Ohama-Darcus is featured in a CBA National Magazine article examining the Supreme Court of Canada's landmark clarification of the Jordan framework governing trial delay.
In the article, Caitlin discusses her role representing the Battered Women's Support Services Association (BWSS) as an intervener in R. v. Vrbanic. BWSS intervened to give voice to survivors of sexual violence and intimate partner violence — individuals who can be significantly affected through the application of Jordan timelines leading to stays of proceeding.
Caitlin also noted the broader constitutional dimension of the issue: "Section 11(b) is not just about the accused's rights. There are broader concerns underlying the Charter provision."
