Paul Matthews and Richard Okimaw to Speak at Accelerate Okanagan Session on Intellectual Property Strategy

Lawson Lundell is pleased to announce that partner Paul Matthews, P.Eng. (AB), and partner and patent agent Richard Okimaw will be speaking at an upcoming Accelerate Okanagan session, "Accelerating IP Strategy," on June 8, 2026.

Both Rick and Paul bring a combination of legal and engineering experience to the discussion. Rick is a mechanical engineer and a registered patent and trademark agent in both Canada and the United States, specializing in patent protection and intellectual property strategy. Paul is a technology commercialization lawyer licensed in Canada and the United States, as well as a registered professional engineer.

Designed specifically for tech founders, entrepreneurs, and growing businesses, the session will focus on practical ways to protect proprietary ideas, strengthen market positioning, and access vital growth funding. No previous legal background is required.

The session will be structured as a moderated conversation rather than a traditional lecture, allowing attendees to bring real-world scenarios and questions directly to the presenters.

The event also coincides with the reopening of funding applications through the AccelerateIP and IPAssist programs.

Event Details:

  • Date: Monday, June 8, 2026
  • Time: 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Location: Accelerate Okanagan HQ Boardroom (#201 - 460 Doyle Avenue, Kelowna, B.C.)

Accelerate Okanagan will also be on hand to share information on available regional funding streams and startup supports. As a partner of the AccelerateIP program, Lawson Lundell is committed to supporting the Okanagan tech ecosystem and helping founders navigate business, technology, and law.

The session is free to attend, but registration is required.
