Alex Calbery is a summer student in Lawson Lundell’s Yellowknife office. She is interested in exploring multiple practice areas and she is most passionate about matters where Indigenous law and corporate law intersect.
Alex has experience with local government legislative processes through her work as an administrative assistant. She brings an upbeat attitude to problem-solving honed over years of working in various client-facing roles.
Alex is currently working towards her joint Juris Doctor and Juris Indigenarum Doctor (JD/JID) at the University of Victoria (UVic). Before attending law school, Alex completed a B.A. with a double major in Political Science and French from Simon Fraser University and an A.A. in Economics from Douglas College.
While in law school, Alex has volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada delivering public legal education and has played a vital role in organizing UVic Law’s Indigenous Perspectives Camp for incoming 1L law students. In her second year, Alex participated in the Gale Cup Moot as her team’s researcher. In her third year, Alex worked as a teaching assistant for the first-year JD/JID legal research and writing class. She counts her time spent in Denendeh (Northwest Territories) as part of the field course component of the JD/JID program as one of her most fulfilling experiences in law school yet.
