Alastair’s regulatory and litigation practice focuses on energy, utility, and Indigenous law. He represents private and public sector clients before the Canada Energy Regulator, the Alberta Energy Regulator, the Alberta Utilities Commission, and in related court proceedings.
In his regulatory practice, Alastair has particular experience in toll and tariff matters, having variously acted for both utilities and industrial ratepayers. He also has project development experience in the power and oil and gas industries, helping clients obtain project and facilities approvals from provincial and federal regulators.
Alastair’s litigation practice focuses on Indigenous law matters, and on appeals and judicial review proceedings arising from regulatory matters. His broad experience includes litigating the constitutionality of legislation, the adequacy of indigenous consultation, and entitlement to environmental credits from renewable energy projects.
As a member of the firm’s Research & Opinions group, Alastair advises clients of their rights and obligations under complex legislative or contractual structures.
Alastair has more than a decade of advocacy experience. Prior to practicing law, Alastair graduated at the top of his class in law school and clerked at the Alberta Court of Appeal.
