Bernadita Tamura-O'Connor
Counsel

Bernadita advises domestic and international clients on oil and gas and renewable energy matters, with a focus on acquisitions, divestitures, and project development. Her practice spans all stages of energy projects, from initial planning and due diligence through to operational and post-transaction support.
In the oil and gas sector, Bernadita assists clients with asset acquisitions and divestitures, including due diligence, title opinions, and closing documentation. She has experience negotiating and drafting a wide range of industry agreements, such as joint operating agreements, royalty agreements, pooling and production allocation agreements, and other joint venture and partnership contracts. She also prepares pre-drilling title opinions related to freehold lands and provides ongoing advice on day-to-day operational matters.
Her renewable energy work includes advising on wind and solar projects, with experience at all phases from planning and construction to development and operations. She advises on acquisitions and dispositions, prepares title opinions, and drafts and negotiates surface leases, sale agreements, and joint venture agreements. Her in-depth knowledge of surface leasehold tenure and land titles complements her broad experience in the oil and gas industry.
Bernadita also advises on disputes involving working interest and royalty owners and supports oil and gas companies with asset integration following mergers and large-scale acquisitions.
Before joining Lawson Lundell, Bernadita practised with EnerLAW LLP, a Calgary-based firm focused on the energy industry, and prior to that with Thackray Burgess.
