Biography

Gordon practices general civil and commercial litigation. Gordon’s primary practice areas include shareholder disputes, pension and benefits litigation, class actions, real estate disputes and administrative law matters. Gordon has appeared at all levels of Court in British Columbia, in Federal Court and in the Tax Court of Canada, and has represented clients before various administrative tribunals and bodies.

While completing his law degree, Gordon interned with the Office of the Prosecutor at a Hague-based international criminal tribunal. After law school, Gordon was a law clerk to judges of the British Columbia Supreme Court in Victoria.

Experience

  • Successfully defeated an application for certification of a proposed consumer class action relating to claims of unjust enrichment, unconscionability, criminal interest and deceptive practices with respect to violation notices issued for parking vehicles in private parking lots without a valid prepaid parking ticket (Webster et al v. Robbins Parking Service Ltd. and Imperial Parking Canada Corporation, 2016 BCSC 1863)
  • Successfully established crown immunity from the application of the GST for pooled investment portfolios used to fund certain public section pension plans (British Columbia Investment Management Corporation v. Canada (Attorney General) 2016 BCSC 1803)
  • Represented a forest company in the successful settlement of a class action concerning reductions to post-retirement health benefits (Dyer v. Weyerhaeuser Co. Ltd., BCSC, Sept 12, 2014)
  • Successfully defended a pension plan administrator in proceedings before the Canadian Human Rights Commission alleging discrimination in the administration of the plan
