Members of Lawson Lundell’s Products Liability Litigation Law Group have developed specialized expertise in all areas of products liability, including manufacturer’s liability, warranty law and class actions, having successfully prosecuted and defended manufacturers from all over the world in numerous civil and class actions involving products such as asbestos-containing spray-applied fireproofing, tools and heavy equipment, mining and forest machinery, pulp mill and saw mill equipment, gasoline dispensing equipment, marine diesel engines, flavouring compounds for soft drink manufacturers, steel bolts and fasteners, lever chain hoists, waterproofing equipment for residential and commercial construction, high performance bicycle equipment and marine and railroad propulsion systems.
Our Products Liability Law Group also regularly represents many of the leading engineering, mining, forest products and railroad companies in Canada in respect of products liability matters. Our lawyers successfully defended W.R. Grace & Co. of Canada Ltd. as well as its American parent, W.R. Grace & Co.-Conn. in, among other matters, the first "asbestos in buildings" test case in Canada, the result of which was widely publicized and is credited by many as having effectively brought "asbestos in buildings" litigation to an end in this country. The judgments given in that case number among the leading authorities in Canadian products liability law.
