Amanda Kemshaw’s practice focuses on litigation and dispute resolution, with an emphasis on public law and class actions, as well as aboriginal law and corporate/commercial matters. Amanda has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the BC Court of Appeal, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Court of Queen’s Bench of Manitoba, the Federal Court of Appeal and before the Ontario Licence Appeal Tribunal.

Before joining Lawson Lundell, Amanda was an associate in Toronto at another leading law firm. During her articles, she was seconded to the Enforcement Branch of the Ontario Securities Commission and worked in Australia at a non-profit legal clinic for underprivileged youth. Prior to her law career, Amanda worked as a tactical crime analyst with the Calgary Police Service’s sex crimes, child abuse, homicide and robbery units.

  • Acting in a judicial review proceeding challenging a decision of the B.C. College of Physicians and Surgeons denying permission for a new prostate cancer treatment in B.C.
  • Acting as counsel for the Federal Representative, the Honourable Frank Iacobucci, who was appointed by Canada to settle the Indian Residential Schools’ litigation
  • Representing a major financial institution in the defence against a class action
  • Defending a class action alleging civil sexual assault in an educational institution
  • Representing a major pharmaceutical company in patent proceedings and appeals
  • Representing a major Canadian Internet service provider in litigation seeking disclosure of customer information for a P2P copyright claim
  • Representing a major financial institution in the defence of proposed class actions concerning the terms of insurance policies
  • Representing a territorial government in connection with an application dealing with a constitutional question before the National Energy Board
  • Representing Western Canadian Coal Corporation in a claim by former officers and directors for a royalty on coal sales
  • Litigating matters before the Federal courts regarding the extent of the duty of consultation in Aboriginal claims
